For Actium, we implemented a special acoustic solution in the entrance & atrium space on behalf of Zwartwoud Groningen. Zwartwoud is known for developing future-proof interiors where appearance, ease of use, and functionality come together.

A unique combination of design, functionality, and acoustics
For this project, the challenge was not only on a acoustic level. The solution also had to align with the way the space is used on a daily basis. The final result is a flexible ceiling system with movable baffles that provides excellent sound absorption and maximum freedom in the layout of the space.
The challenge: a dynamic ceiling with optimal acoustics
The question from Actium was clear, but technically challenging.
The space needed an effective acoustic solution to improve intelligibility and reduce echo. At the same time, Actium wanted to retain the ability to dynamically utilise the ceiling.
The wish was therefore twofold:
- A ceiling solution with high sound absorption.
- A system where the baffles can be shifted over a length of more than 11 metres.
In addition, the project set an important requirement. During the shifting, the distance between the baffles had to remain constant at all times. This calls for a well-designed technical structure that remains balanced both functionally and visually.
Customisation as the basis for the final result
At EASY Noise Control, we always start from the users’ needs and the technical requirements of a space.
For Actium Wonen, we developed a customised solution that perfectly aligns with the desired use of the space. In collaboration with Zwartwoud Groningen, we devised a system where the baffles are suspended on specially designed steel cables.
This construction allows the entire setup to be smoothly shifted without changing the rhythm or the mutual distance between the elements.
As a result, a ceiling is created that adapts to the function of the space.
Open or closed: maximum flexibility
Thanks to the movable system, Actium has two different configurations.
Open position:
- Sense of space
- More visual openness
- A dynamic appearance
Closed position:
- Higher concentration of sound absorption
- Stronger acoustic performance
- More peace and comfort in the space
This flexibility makes the solution unique. The user chooses themselves which arrangement best suits the moment.
120 customised baffles from EASYfelt
For this project, we supplied and installed a total of 120 acoustic baffles.
The baffles have the following dimensions:
- Width: 122 cm
- Height: 25 cm
- Depth: 25 cm
- Radius 8 finish at the bottom
Our sister company EASYfelt handled the customisation and cut all elements entirely according to specifications. As a result, the baffles fit perfectly with the design and technical requirements of the project.
The finished underside not only contributes to the appearance of the ceiling but also enhances the high-quality character of the space.
