Installation of Two Acoustic Wall Panels in a Preschool Gymnasium
In a kindergarten gymnasium, many children often gather together. The space typically has high ceilings and hard floors, walls, and materials. This quickly leads to reverberation and high background noise. Such an environment makes it more difficult to understand each other and requires a lot of attention from both children and staff. Research shows that poor acoustics affect learning performance, concentration, and well-being. Young children are especially sensitive to noise and become overstimulated more quickly. Health guidelines emphasise that fewer sound stimuli are important for the development and health of both children and staff.

Why acoustics are important in a toddler gymnasium
A preschool gymnasium is a place where children move, play, and explore. They gain new impressions and react strongly to what happens around them. Unnecessary sounds can quickly cause unrest. Kindercentrum Doorslag focuses on a safe, educational, and pleasant environment. That is why they choose a solution that improves the acoustics and contributes to the wellbeing of everyone in the space.
Our colleague Thomas visited the site and clearly mapped out the acoustics of the gymnasium. He provided advice that suits the function of the space. A gymnasium often has a longer reverberation time than a classroom because the space is usually larger and higher, has harder materials, and is less filled with furniture. With targeted acoustic solutions, more calm is created together with pleasant acoustics.
The solution: two wide acoustic wall panels
The gymnasium has two long, free walls. Therefore, we place an acoustic wall panel of 9 metres wide and 1 metre high on each free wall. For the filling of these two panels, 9 EASYfelt Panel 50 mm panels in Silver Grey have been used.
Pet-felt for more sustainable and safer acoustics
The EASYfelt panels are made from recycled PET felt and are fully recyclable. The material:
- offers strong sound absorption
- does not support mould or bacterial growth
- complies with the DIN EN ISO 846 test standard
The panel is impact-resistant and effortlessly absorbs knocks, balls in strikes, and kicks. The material remains durable and maintains its shape. As a result, this wall panel is perfect for a gymnasium and is completely kid-proof.
A modern look with Silver Grey and wood
For this project, the colour Silver Grey was chosen. This shade has a speckled and modern grey appearance. The colour complements the bespoke wooden frame nicely, giving the wall a warm and luxurious look.
Custom wooden frame for sleek installation
The panel system rests on a sturdy, custom-made wooden frame. This frame fits precisely onto the wooden rafters in the gymnasium. The panels are fitted tightly together, with no visible joints. This creates a calm wall with a neat finish and maximum sound insulation.
The result
The preschool gymnasium now exudes calm. The acoustics feel comfortable, the walls are safe for children at play, and the space looks modern. The new acoustic panels provide increased comfort, improved concentration, and a pleasant environment for playing and learning every day.
