    Acoustics home studio

    Do you have a home studio or do you want to build one? You have purchased the equipment to make and mix music and vocal recordings yourself. However, the acoustics are not what they could be.

    A pleasant acoustic of a home studio is desirable. This starts with the proper insulation of a home studio. This is why a home studio is often built as a 'floating box' in a room. On this page, you will find some solutions and tips for good home studio acoustics.

    Good home studio acoustics

    In four steps

    A home studio can be used for different purposes. We give some basic steps for reducing resonance and reflections. These are steps to get a clear sound reproduction with as little distortion as possible.

    Absorption

    A home studio needs absorption to reduce reflections and resonance. There are special design studio elements, but studio foams also have a good absorbing capacity.

    Diffusion

    The home studio may sound dry for many genres. Diffusers are added to make the room sound more spacious.

    Bass Traps

    Low-frequency sound often accumulates in corners. To dampen these frequencies, bass traps can be installed. These are placed in the corners. Helmholz resonators can also be a solution (in the case of standing waves).

    Sound insulation

    Good sound insulation in your room determines the sound transmission from the inside to the outside and vice versa. With a floating floor, wall and ceiling construction you can create a good enclosed home studio.

    A=B=C ratio

    In general, a home studio can be built in which we maintain an A=B=C ratio. An equilateral triangle between the listening position and the speakers. A home studio is often a small enclosed space. Here, you want to bring the resonance time to a low level in this room (0.3-0.4 sec).

    It is a good idea to add absorption to the ceiling above the listening position. Ideally combined with a rug under the listening position. You also add absorption on the front and sidewalls. Often also on the rear wall. Bass straps are placed in the corners to make the low-frequency sound better.

    You can also place diffusers on the sidewall to spread annoying reflections instead of dampening them. Every situation is different and the correct solution may deviate from the mentioned recommendation. In this example:

    • 5 pcs Convoluted foam Premium 60 x 100 cm, thickness 50 mm;
    • 2 pcs EASYultra wall panels 60 x 200 cm;
    • 1 pcs EASYceiling cloud ceiling elements 240 x 120 cm;
    • 4 pcs Bass Traps (two per corner).

    Studio Foam

    Improving the acoustics for a home studio can be done on various budgets: design studio panels, absorbing wall elements or with studio foam.

    However, EASY Noise Control has a very wide range, especially when it comes to absorbers. Varying from panels such as EASYphoto and EASYUltra. For an economical budget, studio foams as absorption are also sufficient. These are high-quality acoustic foams. You can easily apply these as a sticker and are ideal for a home studio.
