Acoustics and musical instruments
To enjoy playing your instrument and to be able to practice at home, good acoustics are desirable. In this blog, we explain how you can achieve this good acoustics. We focus here on improving the acoustics in a room and not on preventing sound from going to another room/the neighbours. Reducing sound to the neighbours does require strengthening walls. In that case, we would gladly refer you to a local contractor who can advise you on this matter.
When playing the piano or another instrument, air is set into vibration. These sound waves travel through the space and are reflected by walls and the ceiling. These reflections create (annoying) reverberation and enhance the sound. The most effective way to improve the acoustics in the room where you play an instrument is to add absorption to the ceiling or walls. This will lead to a reduction in the reflections of the sound from your instrument.
For the walls, we recommend the EASYphoto acoustic photo panel. You can choose your own image or photo that fits within the interior of the room where you play your instrument. For the ceiling, it is advisable to install acoustic ceiling panels. These can be glued to the ceiling, so you do not lose any height in the room. If you want a solution that is flexible, movable, and modular, you can also opt for loose sheets of polyester wool. These can easily be placed in the area where you want to counteract reflections, without the need for mounting the panels.
With these solutions, the acoustics in the room will improve, allowing your music to sound better.
