More about pyracoustic melamine foam

Melamine foam is a fire retardant acoustic foam and open cell structure. It has been developed from melamine resin. This makes pyracoustic melamine foam also a duroplastic synthetic material.

Unlike polyurethane foams, this foam is fire retardant because nitrogen is released when it burns. This has a flame-retardant effect.

Pyracoustic is also called Basotect melamine or basotect absorber. Basotect is the licence name of the manufacturer.

Application acoustics

The acoustic foam has a mesh structure. This makes it a soft, yet rigid and flexible material. In addition, it is very light, making it easy to attach to surfaces.

It is therefore often used as a ceiling panel in buildings. If the reverberation is too high, or if the acoustics are poor, you can easily add absorption with this material. The sound-absorbing effect reduces reverberation.

Because of its fire-safe properties, it is also excellent for use in public buildings, such as offices, call centres, restaurants or schools.

Other areas of application

If you are looking for a specific application please contact us. Pyracoustic also has thermal properties and is easy to shape and cut. As a result, the material is also suitable for the automotive and aviation industries. Or for attenuating machine noise.

More properties

At EASY Noise Control, the foam is often supplied with a self-adhesive backing. This makes it easy to process and install. The foams are easy to cut with a punching knife.

The material is sensitive to dirt and moisture. In humid environments the foam can stretch. It is wise to let this material acclimatise for a day in the room where it comes. The sheets can also have a small tolerance in size.

This means that we advise against placing panels tightly together aesthetically. These can ‘push’ each other away. For this reason we do not only sell flat sheets, but also sheets with an inclined side. We call this the ‘edge’.

Most pyracoustic products we offer are available in light grey, dark grey and white. Please note that white is extra sensitive to dirt.

The foam contains air bubbles or cavities. This is inherent to the material. The tolerances can be found on the product pages.

Product range pyracoustic

We do not only sell this acoustic material in sheet metal. You can also contact us for other forms.

Basotect is produced in one block. We can cut different shapes or figures from these blocks. We offer a number of standard shapes, thicknesses and dimensions to minimise cutting loss.

Standard in our range are cylinder baffles, circles and rectangular baffles. The flat sheets (or edge) we handle in a thickness of 30 and 50mm. In 50mm thickness the absorption capacity in the layer is often a lot better.

If you require custom-made work of a certain size or shape, we will be happy to make you an offer.
